May 1 in Greensboro - El 1ro de Mayo en Greensboro
IMMIGRATION REFORM VIGIL SET
As part of a nationwide movement in support of rational and just immigration reform, so that we may once again become a nation of laws (just laws, fairly enforced) and yet also a nation that provides a legitimate welcome to those who work so hard to keep our economy running, a Vigil will be held in the Melvin Municipal Plaza (in front of City Hall) on May 1st from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. We will have speakers from a variety of local faith communities. Participants are asked to wear white shirts/T-shirts and please bring no national flags other than the US flag. May 1st is the feast day of Saint Joseph the Carpenter in the Christian tradition, and has long been observed in most Western nations around the world as a day to honor those whose work is so important to the well being of us all.
Volunteers are needed to help with parking, crowd control and for after event clean up. A meeting of volunteers will be held at the FaithAction International House at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27th. For information about volunteering, please contact Crystal Carterat crystal.carter@earthlink.net.
