Event: April 9, Lenoir/Hickory, NC

The annual Pilgrimage for Justice and Peace, a statewide walk during Holy
Week (Palm Sunday to Good Friday), will kickoff this year in Lenoir/Hickory,
on Sunday April 9.

Now in its 20th year, the Pilgrimage is a statewide walk lifting up issues
of Justice and Peace with a special emphasis on Latin America. This year,
the walk will focus on just and fair treatment for immigrants. Participants
are encouraged to bring signs, drums, and other positive signs of support.
Pilgrimage T-shirts will be on sale for $10-$15.

Details about the Lenoir/Hickory route:

Lenoir:
9:00 a.m.: Spanish Mass begins, St. Francis Church
11:00 a.m.: English Mass begins 1:30 p.m.: Gather at the Latino Center (328
Woodsway Ln.) in Lenoir
1:30 p.m: Participants gather and sign-making.
2:00 p.m.: We will begin walking 3-4 miles down highway 321 South toward
Hickory
3:30 p.m.: We will end the first part of the walk at a Lowes food store on
321, get in our cars and caravan down 321 to our starting spot in Hickory
4:00 p.m.: Walkers will regroup in Hickory (off of 321, parking lot behind
Arby’s, 15th Ave. NW) and walk the final 3 miles through town toward the
Hickory Latino Center.
5:30 p.m.: The Pilgrimage ends at the Hickory Latino Center (737 12th ST.
SW, off of highway 70 near the intersection with 321. We will have dinner,
watch a movie, and discussion. If you’re just joining us for dinner, please
bring food to share. Walkers are encouraged to bring water and snacks.

Hickory:
4:00 - 4:15 pm: Pilgrims gather at Hickory starting place. Core walkers
explain Pilgrimage, walk begins.
5:30 pm: Arrive at Centro Latino. Dinner begins.
6:30 pm: Movie: "Dying to Get In" (39 Min.)
7:10 pm: Discussion: People break into small groups. Asked to discuss 3
questions: What surprised you about the movie? Do you know someone who has
crossed the border this way? What can we do to better welcome immigrants in
our community?
7:25: Groups come together and discuss responses to questions.
7:35: Closing prayer for walkers (walkers facilitate song and closing
prayer)
